THE NEED

To redesign a fictitious series of bottled food labels to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Japanese premium soy sauce brand, Kikkoman.

Kikkoman aims to provide premium traditionally-brewed soy sauce with the wholehearted flavours of Japan in the comfort of your own home. However, the current labels have a cluttered composition, inconsistencies, and lack personal creativity. The packaging is also narrow and small, making it lack in shelf presence among other competitors.

THE SOLUTION

Using the concept of transparency, the label provides a tactile experience using different textures and materials such as vellum, twine, and organic paper to express the rich quality and fine details put into creating the final product. The goal was to create a memorable brand experience that uses the audience’s imagination to immerse themselves in the Japanese historical time period.
